Elliott Brood: Hamilton, Ontario
Elliott BROOD is a three-piece, folk-rock/alt-country band. Elliott BROOD are Mark Sasso, Casey Laforet and Stephen Pitkin. Their brand of fuzzed-up roots music makes for a captivating and frenetic live performance. That energy translates to the band’s five acclaimed records. Their style has been called everything from ‘blackgrass’ to ‘death country,’ but those descriptions don’t capture the transcendent heights of their unique approach to roots music.
Big Little Lions: Vancouver, BC
Big Little Lions are the award winning band from Cincinnati, OH and BC, Canada born out of a collaboration that won them a JUNO Award in 2014. Ever since they have been cranking out infectious folk pop songs that are jam-packed with emotion along with tight harmonies that sound like the product of two people working closely and side-by- side instead of living in different countries. Their live show is quite the spectacle with both Paul and Helen using every limb and then some to create a full band experience.
SALTWATER HANK: Prince Rupert, BC
Born in Prince Rupert, BC and a member of the Gitga’at community, Tsimshian folk artist Saltwater Hank resurrects stories of the land, loss and absurd circumstance and shines them through a sepia lens, witnessing ageless characters with hearts and lives on the line.
